BRAINARD HOMESTEAD STATE PARK
BRAINARD HOMESTEAD STATE PARK
Brainard Homestead State Park is a tranquil, 25-acre park offering lush greenery and serene walking trails. It features open fields, stone walls from the original homestead, and an enchanting pond teeming with wildlife. The park's quiet beauty makes it perfect for peaceful strolls or picnics under its towering trees.
Located in East Haddam, Connecticut, the park was once a private homestead owned by the Brainard family. The 25-acre property features an early-19th-century farmhouse and barns that were built around 1820.
The state of Connecticut acquired this land from Lucy Ely Brainard's estate after her death in 1943. It became part of its State Park system to preserve historical sites for public enjoyment.
Today it offers recreational activities like hiking trails through meadows and woodlands while preserving agricultural history with maintained fields still showing evidence of stone walls.
Connecticut has made state parks, forests, trails, historic sites and beaches more accessible to our residents so they can enjoy the many attractions and beauty they offer. Under the Passport to the Parks program, parking fees are now eliminated at Connecticut State Parks for those with Connecticut registered vehicles. You can view the
