Hope Island State Park is a 106-acre marine camping park on the western side of the state in Mason County, Puget Sound. This quiet island is reachable only by boat. Covered with old-growth forests and saltwater marshes, the park features a beach one-and-a-half miles long. The park offers several campsites, attractive beaches and a trail across the island. The island is forested with occasional meadows and rock outcroppings. One-and-a-half miles of beach and two miles of hiking trail attract boaters to this small, quiet island.
History of the Area
Hope Island was named by Commander Charles Wilkes for one of his crew in 1841. Wilkes was engaged in the mission of charting Puget Sound.
Passes
A Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to Washington state parks for day use. For more information about the Discover Pass and exemptions, please visit the Discover Pass web page.
Camping
The park offers four tent spaces. In addition, there is one Cascade Marine Trail site available to canoers and kayakers only. No open fires are permitted on the island. No water is available, but two vault toilets are provided. All campsites are first-come, first-served.

Boating
The park provides five buoys.

Moorage fees are charged year round for mooring at docks, floats and buoys from 1 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Picnicking
The park provides four unsheltered picnic tables for day-use visitors. Garbage must be packed out when picnickers leave. No open fires are permitted on the island. No water is available, but two vault toilets are provided. Tables are available first-come, first-served.
Trails
1. Mainland Trail: This is the primary trail that runs through Hope Island Marine State Park, offering stunning views of Puget Sound and surrounding islands.

2. Beach Loop Trail: A short but scenic route along the island's shoreline with opportunities for bird watching and beachcombing.

3. Forest Pathway: An inland trail winding its way through dense forested areas filled with cedar trees, ferns, mosses and other native flora; ideal for nature enthusiasts who enjoy quiet solitude in a lush green environment.

4. Wildlife Observation Track: Specifically designed to provide hikers an opportunity to observe local wildlife such as deer or raccoons without disturbing their natural habitat.

5. North Point Lookout Trail: Leads up to a high vantage point on the northern tip of the island providing panoramic views over Skagit Bay towards Mount Baker.

6. South Shore Walkway: Follows along southern coastline featuring rocky outcrops where seals are often spotted basking in sun during low tide periods.

7. West Side Ridge Route: Offers challenging uphill climbs leading onto ridge line overlooking western side of park, perfect spot at sunset time.

8. East End Exploration Path : Allows visitors explore eastern end which includes marshy wetlands area home variety birds species including heron eagles.

9. Central Meadow Stroll: Easy walking path across open meadow located heart park ; great place picnic lunch while enjoying beautiful surroundings.

10. Campground Access Trails: These trails connect various campsites within state park ensuring easy access facilities amenities campers staying overnight.
