KOKEE STATE PARK
Commanding views of the lush, amphitheater-headed Kalalau Valley from 4000 feet elevation. Wildland picnicking, tent camping, trailer camping and lodging. Hiking in native rain forest and along rim of Waimea Canyon; additional trails in neighboring forest reserves. Excellent area for study of native plants, forest birds and insects. Seasonal plum picking and trout fishing. Pig hunting in public hunting area.

Kokee State Park offers picnic tables at Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow, with stunning views. You can also enjoy a packed lunch on trails.
Birding
Birdwatchers can enjoy spotting native species like the Kauai Elepaio, Apapane and Iiwi. The Alakai Wilderness Preserve offers excellent birding opportunities with its diverse avian population. Guided tours are available for those interested in learning more about Hawaii's unique birds. Visitors may also encounter rare species such as the Hawaiian Honeycreeper during their exploration.
