ORMOND TOMB STATE PARK
Ormond Tomb State Park is a historical site featuring the final resting place of James Ormond II. The park offers serene natural surroundings with lush greenery and towering trees that provide shade for visitors. It's an ideal spot for those interested in history or seeking tranquility amidst nature.
Located in Ormond Beach, Florida, the park is home to James Ormond II's tomb. Established as a state park in 1949, it covers just over an acre of land. The site was donated by John Anderson and Joseph Price who were friends with the late Mr.Ormond.
The grave itself dates back to 1821 when James Ormand II died at sea while travelling from Havana to Charleston. His body was returned for burial on his family plantation which later became part of this small but significant historical location.
Over time, efforts have been made towards preserving its history including restoration work done during the Great Depression under President Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Today visitors can explore interpretive panels that provide insights into local history.
