Visitors are amazed at the breathtaking colors of Georgia?s ?Little Grand Canyon.? Colorful wildflowers, as well as the pink, orange, red and purple hues of the soft canyon soil, make a beautiful natural painting at this unique park. The rare Plumleaf Azalea grows only in this region and blooms during July and August when most azaleas have lost their color. Visitors can enjoy views of the canyons from the rim trail, and backpackers who set off before 4 p.m. can stay overnight along the backcountry trail. Camping and cottages are available nearby at Florence Marina State Park on beautiful Lake Walter F. George. A visitor center explains how the massive gullies (the deepest being 150 feet) were caused by erosion due to poor farming practices in the 1800s.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
May 31 A wonderful surprise! by Andee
park review stars; one to five My son had leave from Fort Benning this Memorial day and we were looking for something to do besides eat and shop. We decided to give Providence Canyon State Park a shot. We drove there knowing next to nothing about it and not really expecting much. Needless to say we were blown away by this treasure hidden in the Georgia countryside. The shady trails are perfect for either a leisure hike or a challenging run. We managed to do a little of both while taking in the lovely scenery! I am looking forward to coming back and taking the seven mile hike.
