Selkirk Shores State Park's campsites overlook a bluff on Lake Ontario. In addition to Great Lakes swimming, visitors can expect outstanding fishing and spectacular sunsets. Small boats can be launched from the Pine Grove site, and larger boats from Mexico Point on the Salmon River. Summer hiking and biking trails are used in the winter by cross-country skiers and for snowmobilers. Selkirk Shores is on the direct migration route for a wide variety of bird species.
Swimming
1. Selkirk Shores State Park offers a sandy beach for swimming.
2. Lifeguards are on duty at designated times during the summer season.
3. Swimming is permitted in specified areas only when lifeguards are present.
4. The park's large, shallow bay provides calm waters ideal for beginner swimmers and families with children.
5. There's no pool; all swimming takes place in Lake Ontario's natural environment under supervision of trained staffs.

Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. There is a boat launch site available, allowing individuals to bring their own watercrafts such as canoes and kayaks. Fishing boats are also common due to the abundance of fish in Lake Ontario including salmon and trout species which attracts many anglers each year.
Fishing
Located on Lake Ontario, the park offers shoreline and boat fishing. Species include bass, walleye, salmon and trout.

In Salmon River Reservoir nearby you can fish for smallmouth bass or tiger muskie.

Ice fishing is popular in winter months when conditions allow it.

Fishing gear rental services are available within the park's vicinity.

Picnicking
Selkirk Shores State Park offers picnic tables and pavilions, with grills available. It also has a playground for children.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of trails, though some may be challenging due to uneven terrain.

The park offers both paved and unpaved paths suitable for different skill levels.

Cyclists should exercise caution as the area is shared with hikers and wildlife.

Mountain bikers might find certain off-road sections particularly appealing but also demanding physically.

Ensure you have appropriate gear; helmets are crucial for safety on these routes.

Check weather conditions before setting out, especially during winter months when icy patches could pose risks.

Remember that biking after dark isn't recommended due to limited visibility in wooded areas.
Birding
The park offers a variety of birding opportunities, with diverse habitats attracting numerous species. Birdwatchers can spot waterfowl and shorebirds along the Lake Ontario shoreline or in wetland areas. The forested sections are home to songbirds and raptors while open fields attract grassland birds. During migration season, it's possible to see rare species passing through.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
July 8 Our favorite park to camp at
park review stars; one to five Have camped there for 5yrs and really enjoy doing it, they have clean sites and nice cabins. We really enjoy camping there on our vacation. Just really wish that we could swim there also instead of having to go elsewhere to go swimming they should open their beach again, we do believe that people would enjoy the park and come more if they could swim. But it is still a nice park to go to.
