Over 2,600 acres with a 410 acre lake. 181 modern campsites. Picnicking, swimming, boat launch, fishing, wildlife viewing areas, bird watching. Row boat, canoe, paddleboat, pontoon rental available in the summer. Trails that take you through prairie grasses, hardwood forest and stands of pine trees: 16 miles of hiking/biking, and 9 miles for horseback riding. Snowmobiling. Metal detecting area.
Nature of the Area
More than 228 species have been recorded in Sleepy Hollow, from the common Blue Jay to the Eastern Bluebird. During migration, look for waterfowl in Lake Ovid. The rarely recorded Bonaparte's Gull or Bald Eagle also have been sighted.

Lake Ovid has proven to be a very popular fishing lake with a wide variety of fish such as pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, rock bass, perch, catfish and bullheads.
Passes
The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into state parks and recreation areas, state boat launches, state forest campgrounds and state trail parking lots. Swimming
1. Sleepy Hollow State Park offers a designated swimming beach on Lake Ovid.
2. The lake is 410 acres, providing ample space for swimmers and sunbathers alike.
3. No lifeguards are present; swim at your own risk policy applies here.
4. Swimming outside the marked areas or off boats in the middle of the lake isn't allowed due to safety reasons.
5. Pets aren't permitted within any bathing area but can enjoy other parts of this park with their owners.

Boating
Boat launch and parking area are paved. Lake Ovid is a "No Wake" lake inside Sleepy Hollow State park. There are 2 boating access sites in Clinton County maintained by the park, Muskrat Lake and Looking Glass River. See the Michigan Recreational Boating Information System for more information.

Kayaks, rowboats, paddleboats and pontoon boats are available for rent.
Canoeing
Canoeing and kayaking are popular activities at Sleepy Hollow State Park.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy fishing in Lake Ovid, known for its abundant bluegill, largemouth bass and pike. Boat rentals are available. There's also ice-fishing during winter months when conditions permit it. The park offers two accessible fishing platforms as well.

Horse Area
In addition there are over six miles of horse trails, open to day users who trailer their horses in for the day. Horses are allowed on horse trails only. Bridle Trails are maintained and managed by the Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders Association (SHTRA.
Picnicking
For the day-user, a beach is located northwest of the campground with picnic tables, beach house and phones. Three picnic areas are located within the park. Each of the picnic areas have vault toilets, hand water pumps, picnic tables, grills and a shelter. In addition, the East Picnic Area offers a picnic shelter equipped with a fireplace, and the Island Picnic area offers a bridge to the largest island on Lake Ovid. Each shelter is available at no charge on a first-come-first-serve basis or is reservable at a per day fee.

Bicycling
More than 11 miles of trails are open for biking, mountain biking and hiking.
Cross-country Skiing
All trails in Sleepy Hollow State Park are open to cross country skiing.

Birding
The park offers birding opportunities with over 228 species recorded. It features diverse habitats attracting various birds, including waterfowl and songbirds. Birdwatchers can explore the trails or visit Lake Ovid for sightings of aquatic birds. The park also hosts an annual "Birds of Prey" event showcasing live raptors.

Snowmobiling is allowed in the west end of the park when there is at least four inches of snow on the ground. Snowmobiles are prohibited on cross country ski trails, and must have a current registration.

park review stars; one to five I agree, last time I was at the beach there was a TON of dog droppings that needed to be picked up...GROSS

park review stars; one to five Had a blast swimming with my dogs, noticed some seagulls there too, and a few insects, and of course the fish that were in the water. There was some Yuppie there whining about dogs at the beach. Otherwise we all had a great day, lovely park!
