Snake Den State Park is located along Route 6 in Johnston, Rhode Island. The 1000 acre undeveloped property boasts self-guided walking trails, beautiful trees, flowers, plants, and working farm as well. The foliage is something to behold in the fall. Snake Den is accessible at a small parking lot past Dame Farm on the right hand side, which is located on Brown Avenue in Johnston.

The State is currently working on drafting a new master plan of development for this park and hopes to begin some initial development in the next couple of years. One of the principal objectives of this park will be to maintain Dame Farm as an existing working farm so as to preserve a portion of Rhode Island?s rich but diminishing agricultural heritage.
History of the Area
Date State Acquired: October 10, 1969

Total Acreage: 744

Snake Den State Park and Dame Farm are currently 744 acres of undeveloped State Park property situated between Route 6 and Greenville Avenue in Johnston. This property consists of valuable woodland and established open fields and pastureland. This is part of Dame Farm which will be one of the focal points in this park.

Snake Den State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables and grills, surrounded by beautiful woodland scenery for a relaxing meal.
Birding
The park offers diverse birding options with over 100 species spotted, including hawks and migratory songbirds. Birdwatchers can explore various habitats such as forests, fields, and wetlands for a varied experience.
