In 1944 it was sold to the state of California and became part of Santa Monica State Park. The park's name changed to its current form when ownership transferred from state hands back into county control during the late twentieth century.
The area offers various recreational activities such as swimming and volleyball with facilities including restrooms and picnic areas for visitors' convenience.
