At the turn of the century, this was the site of the Diamond Match Company. Scenic waterfalls are at the southeast end of the Park on the Eight Mile River. The Larkin Bridle Trail is nearby.

Visitors can enjoy freshwater fishing in the park's pond and Eight Mile Brook. Common catches include trout, bass, and perch. Fishing enthusiasts may need a state license to cast their lines here during open seasons as per local regulations. The serene environment offers an ideal setting for both novice anglers and experienced fishermen alike.

Southford Falls State Park offers scenic picnicking spots with tables and grills overlooking the picturesque waterfall and covered bridge.
- Red Blazed Trail: This trail is 1.8 miles long, offering a moderate hike through the forest with views of waterfalls and an old mill site.
- Blue/Red Loop Trail: A short but steep .3 mile loop that takes hikers to scenic overlooks on top of Southford Falls.
- Orange Connector Trails: These trails connect different parts of the park together; their total length is approximately 2 miles.
- Yellow Dot Trail (South): It's about half-mile in length, this easy-to-moderate path offers beautiful woodland scenery along Eight Mile Brook.
-Pink Blaze Interpretive Nature Walk : An educational walk for children or those interested in learning more about local flora and fauna; it covers less than one mile distance.
-Green Circle Route : The longest route at around three miles which circles most part of the state park providing panoramic view points over Lake Zoar as well as several brooks running into it from surrounding hillsides.

From I-84: take Exit 16. At both east and west ramps, take a left onto Route 188. Follow to junction with Route 67. At traffic light, take a left onto Route 67. At the next light, take a right back onto Route 188. Southford Falls is a ? mile on the left.
From Route 8 north or south: take Exit 22 onto Route 67 in Seymour. Follow Route 67 north through Oxford. After about 9 miles, take a left at the traffic light at the Junction of Route 188. Southford Falls is approximately a ? mile on the right.
