STURGEON POINT STATE PARK
Sturgeon Point State Park is a scenic 76-acre park located along the shores of Lake Huron in Alcona County, Michigan. It was officially opened to the public on May 28, 1967. The park's main feature is its historic lighthouse that dates back to 1869; it serves as an iconic beacon for boaters and offers visitors a glimpse into maritime history.
The landscape includes pristine sandy beaches perfect for swimming or sunbathing and wooded areas ideal for picnicking or nature walks. While relatively small compared to other state parks, Sturgeon Point provides ample opportunities for fishing from both shorelines and via boats launched at nearby access points.
In addition to outdoor activities like hiking trails through mixed forests teeming with wildlife, there are educational experiences available through exhibits inside the restored keeper's house museum adjacent to the lighthouse. This family-friendly destination remains open year-round though some facilities may be seasonal, offering different ways throughout each season, to enjoy this northern Michigan gem.
The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into state parks and recreation areas, state boat launches, state forest campgrounds and state trail parking lots. Details and information on how to obtain your Michigan Recreation Passport can be found by visiting the
