....moreCreated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bull Shoals Lake was formed with the completion of Bull Shoals Dam in 1951. The dam's primary purposes were flood control, hydroelectric power generation, and recreation.
Before its transformation into a lake and park area, the region primarily consisted of rural farmland and wilderness. Land use involved agriculture along with hunting and fishing activities typical for this part of Arkansas.
Ownership prior to development belonged largely to private landowners whose properties would eventually be acquired through purchase or eminent domain by government authorities for reservoir creation.
Historical features within what is now known as Bull Shoals-White River State Park include remnants from early settler communities such as homesteads, cemeteries, old roadbeds that once traversed future lake bottoms before inundation occurred during dam construction.
The park itself offers an array of recreational opportunities including boating access points on clear waters renowned for bass fishing tournaments while preserving natural habitats around Ozark landscapes rich in biodiversity.
