Spanning approximately 18,220 acres at its normal maximum level and stretching over 64 miles in length with a meandering shoreline that exceeds 415 miles, this lake offers ample space for various water activities. Opened to public use since its completion in February 1948 after about five years of construction starting from April 2nd , it has become an outdoor haven featuring boating opportunities as well as fishing spots teeming with bass among other species.

History of the Area
Constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Center Hill Dam and its accompanying reservoir were completed in 1948 for flood control, electricity generation, and recreation purposes. The land surrounding the lake was primarily rural before dam construction; it consisted of farms and woodlands used for agriculture and logging.

Prior to federal acquisition for the project, local families owned these lands. Some historical features within what is now parkland include remnants from early settlers such as homesteads or cemeteries that are scattered throughout.

The area has since been developed into recreational facilities including parks with boat ramps, campgrounds, hiking trails while maintaining wildlife management areas to preserve natural habitats. Recent use focuses on outdoor activities like boating fishing camping picnicking along with efforts towards environmental conservation education initiatives aimed at protecting native species ecosystems around waterways.
