North Higgins Lake located on what was once the world's largest seedling nursery, provides the variety of tree, plant, bird and animal species that make the park attractive for outdoor activities. Open all year for camping.
Passes
The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into state parks and recreation areas, state boat launches, state forest campgrounds and state trail parking lots. Swimming
1. North Higgins Lake State Park offers a designated swimming area on the shores of beautiful Higgins Lake.
2. The park's sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles before or after swimming.
3. Lifeguards are not provided, so swimmers should exercise caution when entering the water.
4. Swimming areas can get crowded during summer months due to its popularity among locals and tourists alike.
5. Restrooms, changing facilities, picnic tables and grills are available near the swim area for convenience.

Boating
The park offers a range of boating options for visitors. There is a boat launch site available, providing easy access to the lake's waters. Boaters can enjoy fishing or simply cruising on Higgins Lake, known for its clear blue water and sandy bottom. Canoeing and kayaking are also popular activities in this area due to calm waters making it ideal even for beginners.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing in the crystal-clear waters, home to species like Northern Pike, Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass. The lake also houses a healthy population of Rock Bass and Bluegill. Anglers can fish from shore or boat for an exciting catch-and-release experience. Ice fishing is popular during winter months too.



Picnicking
1. North Higgins Lake State Park offers numerous picnic tables and grills for a perfect outdoor meal.
2. There are two pavilions available to rent, ideal for larger gatherings or events.
3. Picnic areas provide stunning views of the lake, adding serenity to your dining experience.
4. The park's beachside location allows picnickers to enjoy swimming before or after meals.
5. Visitors can also hike nearby trails post-picnicking as part of their day out in nature.

Trails
Eleven miles of marked hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails are adjacent to the park on state-forest managed land. The Upland Nature Trail includes a series of fitness stations.

Bicycling
Cycling enthusiasts can explore several trails within this picturesque park. However, caution is advised due to varying terrain and weather conditions.

The 3-mile Fitness Trail offers a paved path suitable for casual biking trips. Be mindful of pedestrians sharing the trail.

For more experienced riders seeking adventure, there's an unpaved Blue Trail stretching over five miles through dense forest areas; helmets are strongly recommended here.

Winter cycling may be challenging as snowfall could make paths slippery or inaccessible - always check local forecasts before setting out on your ride!

Remember that all cyclists must adhere strictly to posted signs and rules in order to ensure safety for everyone enjoying the natural beauty of these surroundings.
Cross-country Skiing
Eleven miles of marked hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails are adjacent to the park on state-forest managed land. Trails are groomed.
Area Attractions
The Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center is located adjacent to the park. This educational center serves state and federal agencies, educational groups and other nonprofit organizations in a natural setting away from the distractions of home and the work place. The Civilian Conservation Corps Museum documents the efforts to "put Americans back to work" during the Great Depression. The CCC enrolled more than 100,000 young Michigan men to perform a variety of a conservation and reforestation efforts. Between 1933 and 1942, the Michigan CCC planted 484 million trees, spend 140,000 days fighting forest fires and constructed 7,000 miles of truck trails, 504 bridges and 222 buildings.
