Why is it that there is no info on what Ted Shanks did to contribute to the wild life area? I am so sad his memory is forgotten.
February 9For the birds by Mark K.
This is a good area to visit to see birds, especially during migration times. There will, if you happen on the right days, be thousands of ducks and/or geese of varying types. Others you will see are herons, egrets, eagles although these are not exclusive to migration periods. There are also a lot of song birds. It is a decent stream and small lake fishing area. There is also a neaby access to the Mississippi. Hiking is mostly open gravel road walking and on levees when permitted. Be forwarned, if planning to hike/walk/car tour make sure the area is open to that activity during duck, goose, and deer seasons.
