Iowa Parks Visitor Reviews

Great Fishing and hunting - A friend of mine and I went fishing on the lake and had very good luck. We stayed 4 nights. The Park Ranger was an excellent source of information about where to fish and what bait to use. He was very friendly and accommodating. We also wanted to do a little squirrel hunting and he directed us to a nearby open area and recommended a likely spot. Again we had good luck. Having the Park Ranger as a resource at Three Fires Lake made the trip for us.

Memories - I remember it being such a pretty little lake when I was a kid growing up in Mondamin. Wish it could be brought back to being a nice fishing lake.

One of the best - First, Bearded and Hooked would like to thank Viking Lake State Park for hosting us this weekend. You guys were awesome. We have camped at MANY campgrounds across the U.S. over the years, and Viking Lake State Park is one of the best! The grounds are well taken care of, the tent site areas are clean of rocks, and sticks. The bathrooms and showers are the best I have seen in a state park. And DNR does a fantastic job taking care of any issues, questions, and keeping everyone safe. They do more than most that I have seen. We will most definitely be coming back and encouraging others to make a reservation there. Thank you for the awesome experience

Forgotten in Time - This is a park that time has forgotten, trails are impossible to follow because of overgrowth. Definitely not a place to walk trails with children anymore, so sad.

Nicely kept - Sites are about 20 feet apart unlike what it looks like on the campsite map. Tent sites are all sloping on the grassy hillside. They could improve it by making some level ground. Level sites are in the middle (6,8,10,11). Nice trail through the woods. Lake is shallow on campground side but its an easy drive around to the other side.

- My husband & I lived in Lamoni from 1990-1992, this was our favorite park to picnic & walk trails. We hope to go back again someday.

Nice Park but Not Employees - We have camped in Iowa State Parks for years without a single problem or incident. Love camping in Iowa but the Camp Host and the DNR employee were very rude and harassed us and other campers several times. Will not be back

- Need to keep unrespectful fishermen off the bridges. Some one is going to get hurt, fishing rods look like whips to a horse, tackle boxes in the middle of the bridge, and they do not care. so sad

Little White Church - Less than a half a mile from the Mill is a little white german church. I was married in the church in the fall of 2011. We spent the rest of the day out at Wild Cat enjoying the huge bluffs, the clear creek, pretty waterfall, and easy trails. At dusk you could hear the distant howl of wolves and relax in the stillness of the woods. Pretty amazing place. One of my favorite state parks in Iowa and worth the drive.
